Kate McCoid is a working-class filmmaker from Essex with a distinctive voice in genre storytelling.A BAFTA Connect member, commissioned writer, and BFI Script Lab alumnus, she has developed scripts with industry leaders and written award-winning shorts that have screened globally at BIFA and BAFTA-qualifying festivals. Her breakout film, It’s Not Custard, premiered at SXSW before finding a home with Channel 4’s Random Acts and the horror platform Alter.Collaborating frequently with Ben S. Hyland, they have written scripts that have gained industry recognition, recently winning the 2024 TV Pilot Contest with Shore Scripts. Their work was also recognised by the Channel 4 Screenwriting Programme, leading to a Sky Mentorship.Alongside her filmmaking, Kate has built a decade-long career in VFX, contributing to titles including Andor, The Little Mermaid, The French Dispatch, and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.
